Welcome to Upbuild Foundation’s Community Uplift Project for the Rohingya in Karachi.
Upbuild Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Architecture and Planning at NED University in Karachi, has launched a research project to work on community uplift programs for the Rohingya community in Karachi, Pakistan. The Rohingya, a persecuted minority from Myanmar (Burma), have fled to neighboring countries due to ongoing military persecution in their native Rakhine State (Arakan State). Karachi has been home to around 400,000 Rohingya people for decades. However, as stateless individuals, they are not recognized legally in Pakistan, which restricts their ability to vote, obtain citizenship, access formal education, and enter the workforce.
